Marathon

It's not a job if you're doing what you love.

Ask anyone who knows me, and they’ll tell you that running is one of my favorite pastimes. From casual running to racing, I love a nice run to get outside and clear my head. This passion is why I jumped at the opportunity when the Illinois Marathon approached me for freelance work in 2017.

Growing up in the Champaign-Urbana area, I had participated in some of the Marathon’s shorter races. Because of that, I was familiar with the organization and its brand entering into this partnership. However, this experience allowed me to appreciate better what goes into the marketing and logistics of such a significant event.

Below are some assets that I created for the Illinois Marathon:

Newspaper Advertisement

This design is an advertisement made for the local newspaper in Champaign-Urbana, IL. The ad’s purpose was to encourage people to register for the Marathon ahead of an upcoming price increase. I used dynamic text and engaging imagery to convey the client’s message.

Race Bibs

The following is a sampling of race bibs for the Marathon. In 2018, I was able to aid in their design and layout. Each bib required a great deal of care and attention to ensure that the placement of each design element was consistent for printing purposes.

Web Banner

I created this Cyber Monday web banner for the Marathon to promote a discounted rate on Marathon Registration. The only request was that the banner utilize the same blue and orange colors present in the Marathon’s iChallenge Event Logo and be eye-catching. I focused on using a large, bold headline and strong contrast in the type elements to create a sense of visual hierarchy. I included a photo of runners to add visual interest and evoke a feeling of energy to the banner.
